About Shaun

I was born and raised in London, England – with a lifelong fascination for both art and for the body and movement. Based on the latter, I was certified in 1987 as a fitness and movement instructor under the RSA (Royal Society of Arts) and began working as a personal trainer.

Today, most health-related disciplines are highly specialised (and very highly qualified!)—yet for that very reason, it can sometimes be difficult to determine whether, for example, long-standing digestive problems are a matter for a medical doctor or a psychologist.

At times, I feel that I have, in a sense, drawn the luckiest card—because in acupressure, the answer to whether a problem is “something physical” or “something psychological” is always that it relates to the whole. And therefore, it is the whole that we work with and follow, session by session.

From the outset, I was fascinated by how physical activity is not “just” physical activity, but also an expression of—and an opportunity for the development of—human physical and psychological wellbeing and self-understanding, including everything that both body and mind carry with them (often without our conscious awareness).

Alongside my professional work, I therefore completed training in both zone therapy (reflexology) and massage therapy, which subsequently became an increasingly central part of my daily practice.

During my time in the United States (from 1992-2002), I was employed, among other places, at Boston University Medical Center Hospital (now BMC). I had the opportunity to further develop the perspectives I experienced as most central to the focus of my work: the interaction between psyche and soma in health and personal development.

From there, my path naturally led even deeper into the therapeutic field through acupressure, where my many years of body–mind perspective made it an obvious choice to specialise in the Jin Shin Do tradition—perhaps the branch that most clearly emphasises the importance of working with attentive awareness of both mind and body.

My time in the United States also gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in my other great life passions. In Boston, I studied Aikido with Sensei William Gleason and art at The New England School of Art and Design (part of Suffolk University) and Massachusetts College of Art, from which I graduated with a BFA (Dist.) – Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction. On this basis, I ran The Studio Gallery in Odense in Denmark for a short number of years.

Testimonials

“Dear Shaun, I am so grateful to have found my way to you and your treatment. With his very gentle and caring approach, Shaun has treated me over the past two months. When I first came to him, I didn’t really know what I needed help with—I just didn’t feel truly happy after the death of a close family member. He helped me go from being afraid to feel anything, to leaving the sessions with a bubbling sense of joy and happiness. It is a truly amazing experience to be able to live and feel again. With the deepest respect and gratitude, I give my warmest recommendation …”

“It is always truly a wonderful experience to visit Shaun. Both the conversations and the treatments help me a lot with my challenges such as stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem. After every session with Shaun, I feel relaxed, I sleep better, and the challenges I came in with are released. It’s an amazing treatment for, for example, a busy everyday life, for anyone who wants to work on themselves, or for those who wish to improve their quality of life. A thousand thanks.”

“We went to Shaun because I had heard that he had a special gift. Our little Sara (not her real name) had suffered from stress and anxiety for several months and was struggling with sleep. Shaun didn’t ask at all about what her problems were or what was challenging her, because, as he said, he was ‘more interested in where she was going instead.’ After only three very short treatments, each lasting maybe 3–4 minutes, where he placed his fingers on a few points on Sara’s head while we all talked together about her favorite things and so on—she is now balanced, confident, happy, and a cheeky little girl full of energy. And she sleeps really well now. Shaun, thank you so much for the treatments!”
