\n\t\t\t\t\u201cA few years ago, I collapsed under stress and severe depression. Gradually, I\n\u2018returned\u2019 on reduced hours, but after a couple of years I crashed for the second time\n\u2014and this time permanently. I was on the maximum dose of antidepressants, which\nbarely kept me alive\u2014but I could barely manage anything, not even the things that\nhad previously brought me joy and meaning (things that could have given me even a\nlittle more quality of life and energy).\nBoth my general practitioner and psychiatrist had tried everything, but to no avail. A\nprevious psychological course had been completed successfully but was also\nconcluded because no further progress could be made; and my application for early\nretirement went through remarkably smoothly. Everyone around me\u2014not only family\nand friends, but also my former workplace and social services\u2014was kind,\nunderstanding, compassionate, supportive, and relieving; yet there was so little \u2018fuel\u2019\nleft that I could not live in a way that justified continuing to exist.\nI loved my family, my job (which was extremely meaningful), and my sport (which I\nhad taught for many years, a lifelong practice where the top practitioners are all over\n70)\u2014but now I could neither contribute at home nor at work, and I could not manage\nany training. Suicidal thoughts were a daily companion.\nThen I ended up with Shaun, whom I had previously heard describe his work with\nJapanese \u2018body-mind acupressure\u2019\u2014a method uniquely focused on balancing not\nonly the body but also the mind. I must honestly admit that, although I consider\nmyself open-minded, I am trained (and very well-grounded) in Western science; so I\napproached the first session with openness to the idea that it might help (a little!)\nwith my condition, but still with some skepticism\u2014and, not least, with a slightly\ncynical awareness that my state could hardly get much worse, and that, in any case,\nI would not lose my place in the queue to the undertaker.\nWhen I rose from the table after the first treatment, I felt two things: My \u2018baseline\nmood\u2019 had improved slightly\u2014not dramatically, but clearly enough that I was certain;\nand my fundamental energy level had risen a little\u2014again, not dramatically, but to a\nlevel I had not felt in many years. Life felt less unbearable than before.\nAfter the second treatment, a week later, there was a similar lift compared to the first\nsession; and I continued with weekly treatments for about four months. Along the\nway, there were various fluctuations, and I began to feel different emotions that had\nbeen shut down for a long time\u2014not always pleasant, but always \u2018useful\u2019 and\nworkable. The consistent theme throughout the process was a quiet but steadily\nincreasing mood\u2014especially courage for life\u2014and a corresponding rise in energy\nlevels.\nAt present, I have moved to a \u2018maintenance level,\u2019 attending treatments about once a\nmonth\u2014both to keep progress going and to address any issues early. Professionally,\nI remain on early retirement, and at present, this is unlikely to change. But what is\ncrucial for me is that I am now able to be more present for my family (in the way I\nwant to be present\u2014not just physically), to find more peace and joy in daily life, and\nto resume my sport, even at a reasonable level!\nSuicidal thoughts have become far less frequent\u2014and when they do appear, they\nare far less intense than before. My longstanding craving for sugar, which often\naccompanies depression (and can noticeably increase weight), has disappeared:\nsuddenly, but quietly\u2014midway between two treatments\u2014I woke up and realized it\nhad been there yesterday, but it was gone today, and it has not returned since. It has\nbecome a discreet aversion to sugar\u2014I can eat sugary foods if I want, but literally, I\nam mostly free of the craving!\nSo far, my new state of life quality has lasted several months, with no sign of\nfaltering. My \u2018old\u2019\u2014hopeless!\u2014state had lasted a couple of years without\nimprovement, so I can find no other explanation than the treatment sessions with\nShaun (which were the only \u2018life-changing\u2019 intervention I undertook during that\nperiod). I have also noticed positive changes after each session, often immediately\nafter leaving the table\u2014showing me clearly that it is the treatments that have had the\neffect.\nI can therefore only recommend Shaun and Jin Shin Do acupressure wholeheartedly\n\u2014even if you think your situation is hopeless!
